After all of the complexities and parameters of bass construction (design, woods, hardware,
electronics, etc.), a bass is really only as good as the strings.

Tension, focus, attack, and tone can be manipulated with string material, core, diameter
and consistency of wraps, tension of wraps, number of wraps, etc. We find there is no need to use a B string that is the size of your home electrical service. Working closely with a string
maker, we settled on a design that provides even tension with responsive attack and focus throughout the entire range. An important part of the design is the tapered core that goes over the bridge
saddle. The Pedulla string tapers to one wrap at the bridge saddle (on the B, E, A. and D), which allows the string to focus rapidly on the fundamental and “make the bend” over the
saddle with a precise angle, while keeping the tension just right.

A critical element in all Pedulla sets is the string to string balance. Tight multiple windings
of specially chosen metal provide a robust lively sound, from the low B string to the high C. All too often, both bass makers and string makers tend to overemphasize the importance of the “B” string (to
the point that it becomes the only string on the bass) while ignoring the string response and balance in the upper registers (especially evident on six-string basses). Good strings must also be able to respond to
the players touch. That touch is what gives a player their own sound. A single bass technique no longer exists, as the modern bassist explores all possibilities. Pedulla strings maintain a warm
finger sound while responding in a biting and furious fashion when slapped – and reacting to everything in between. Pedulla’s stainless steel strings are designed for maximum punch, power, and
bottom with a bright, wet attack. The nickel strings are voiced in a calmer, sweeter fashion with rich overtones overlying the tight bottom end. Both types are available as 4, 5, and 6-string sets in
various gauges.
